The Day After

Well, Friday was my birthday...It began strangely.

It snowed the entire drive to school. It's November. It does not snow in November in Virginia Beach. Ever. Very weird. I took this as a sign.

At 9 a.m. I met with my good friend who also complete the process for National Board Certification last year. She had been my partner in teaching and confidant through the whole thing. We wanted to look at our scores together. She met me in my office, and we prayed before we clicked "login" to see.

Ugh. I missed by five lousy points. Can you believe that?!? Five stinky points. Those five points will cost me $350 to take it again. Seventy bucks a point. Ugh.

Then, we went to the football game. I just knew that we would win. After the day that I had, surely we would at least win the football game. It was the Eastern Regional Championship. If we win that then we would only be one game away from state.

It was a nail biter. We kicked an onside kickoff. The other team fumbled it in the last minute and a half. We recovered with time to make the tying touchdown. The ref called a penalty. He said that the other team had not touched the ball and we received a penalty for illegal touching. Blatantly incorrect. The stand erupted. Unbelievable. It was the same ref who had made two other VERY questionable calls earlier in the season. Our players were beside themselves. The Coach pulled them together, and they went out with style and dignity. We lost 28 to 21. It was a heart breaker.

My thirty-eighth birthday...the day of almost. The good news? I did get a new front loading washer and dryer. Bless Tom. He knew that I needed a really nice birthday gift after such a lousy day. He's the best!

AJ,

Thought about you on the big day! I'm so sorry I did not call.

I just feel awful about your certification exam. Ugh.

Well, the good news is that as someone who has been 38 since March, it's a good year. :)

Lots of love!!!
