So, I know that I have not posted an entry in two weeks or more. Been crazy lately.
For the last two days plus, I have been busy with the elections here at my school. As the technology resource person I was appointed to produce the video of the candidates speeches to show to the student body. In previous years everyone went down to the gym and sat in the bleachers for the speeches...this is much better...at least for everyone else. For me, not so much...I slept about 45 minutes last night. Even after finally getting the crazy thing finished it looked a little like a bad Kung Fu movie because the sound did not quite match up with the mouths of the kids...What can I say...45 minutes sleep people. I was trying to produce this hour long video on a desktop that came over on the Ark.
As I watched each student give their speech I was reminded of my own high school experiences. The candidates promise everything from class picnics and dances to suggestion boxes and scholarships. We're a magnet academy so we get that kind of thing...I mean they do senior pranks, but they are harmless. It's not like these kids are going to put jello in the school fountain or something. These student candidates suggest stuff like scholarships. I had to chuckle...mostly because I thought it was a good idea. I loved seeing the gimmicks that they come up with to use with the speeches. One kid had a box of Life cereal, and wanted the students to "get the best out of Life" and yet another showed a current picture of the school, but promised that with him as vice president the school would look like this...holding up a picture of the Empire State Building. He pointed to one part of the structure to indicate about where the cafeteria would be. Another girl had an abacus...she stated that she would be a good treasurer even if she had to do the accounting the old fashioned way...they're so crazy! :)
High school was so great. I enjoyed it...not enough to go back, but it was fun. Too many ups and downs...really high and really low. I am enjoying my own children experience it though...so far that's been fun too...I'm sure we will encounter a few bumps in the road. That's ok...I hope that will look back one day and find that they had fun too.
