Harriman State Park

Today we went on to Harriman State Park with our bikes. We thought that we might try the horseback riding, but the man told us that we needed reservations, so we put our name on the list for tomorrow and went bike riding. The park was just spectacular! I don’t think that I have ever seen anything so b the best trout fishing in the world. We rode our bikes for such a long time. We rode all around. Eventually a storm chased us back to the van. We were able to watch and smell it coming across the big meadow and across the mountain. It was wonderful. I think the girls were a little scared of the lightning. We stayed in the van for a little while during the storm and listened to the rain. We had a small lunch while we waited. The storm did not last too long, and then we were able to go right back out into the park on our bikes. We rode all over the place. It was so much fun! We saw the river. It is said to be the best trout fishing in the world. The “Miracle Mile” as it were. We saw some marshland like we have at home.

We saw other people who were horseback riding that day. We just rode all around and enjoyed the beautiful flowers and scenery. It was unbelievable. We were all just mesmerized by the place. The park itself was a private retreat for the Guggenheim family in the early part of the century. They owned it and would invite friends and family to the retreat for a respite from the busy life of the railroad business. We left in the late afternoon to return back to Henry’s Lake.
