Mammoth Hot Springs

The next day we decided to go ahead and finish seeing Yellowstone. We thought it would probably be very crowded again, but there were still things that we wanted to see. We stopped at a small restaurant in West Yellowstone to eat breakfast. Everything was rather over priced. After breakfast we decided to stop at the grocery store to get items for a picnic lunch. We finally got moving, but the traffic was terrible yet again. We did see some of the Yellowstone River. We also drove to Mammoth Hot Springs, but the crowds were terrific so were just took a driving tour. They were amazing though. We did get out at several spots to look at the springs a little closer. We saw a few bears also. We stopped at one part and got out to see some buffalo. They were out in a field and Tom took the kids right over to them. They are very massive creatures.

We decided that driving back through the park the way that we had come in was a bad idea, so we drove north. We stopped not to far from the north entrance and too a short while. It was a bout a mile in to the river. We walked in and had a picnic on the banks. We could hear and smell a thunderstorm rolling in over the mountains. It was such a beautiful day. The water was great and the sky was gorgeous. It was such a nice spot it almost made up for the terrible traffic and crowded spots earlier. We could watch the lightning coming over the mountains toward us. Finally, we had to move on. We drove north into Montana. We drove around to the west and finally back down into Idaho through Bozeman.

We all truly loved the area. It was so beautiful. We all decided that this is where we want to move! Finally, we arrived back to the site only to find the wind had turned everything upside down yet again. It had to set everything back up. It took us a little while. It didn’t get dark until almost ten o’clock though. These long days are great! We had a very late dinner before retiring to the tent for some rest.
