Well, I think that we all will make it through the first week of school. TGIF tomorrow (Thank the Lord!) I think that this may have quite possibly been the most difficult first week of school that I have ever experienced...and I am including first grade which was considerably stressful for me as a 5 year old.
Joanna's schedule this year is very demanding. She has had a great week, but boy is she spread thin. She has eight classes, and she has no lunch either day, A or B. She chose to take the extra classes, but I do worry about it. She seems to be great with it. Loves that Spanish 4...They were salsa dancing the first day! And AutoCAD...she's all about it. Man, they have such cool stuff now...where was all this junk when I was in high school...silly me...I took classes like English and math. She felt like she had already been in school anyway. She's been at band camp for three weeks now. (yeah, this one time at band camp...I know...I know...I am so strict she has never even seen the movie.)
Charlotte...poor Charlotte. Her week has been like mine. Bless her heart, she found out her best friend is moving away. And Charlotte is one of those kids who has A best friend, but few others. She is struggling. She dislikes her teachers, she dislikes the classes, she apparently just dislikes 8th grade period. I feel confident that she will improve. She is a strong front runner for drum major in the marching band. Perhaps if she is able to get that spot she will have a change of heart.
Carson had a good week as well, except that he was quick to tell me the first day that he did NOT make a new friend. "I know all of the people who are in my class. They are all old people I know." A lot of people say that about me these days. :) Second grade seems to be a lovely age. I did, however, notice that he stealthily decided on a wardrobe change on the second day of school. I have already left for work by the time he gets up, so I lay out his clothes the night before. Apparently he was not thrilled about my choice of apparel.
As for me, I can hardly share with you my joy at the fact that tomorrow is Friday. This will be a challenging year. I feel it already even this week, culminating in an all nighter that I had to do last night in producing the school administrative orientation video. Don't ask. And the whole dual national board certification thing...what was I thinking?!?
Thank God for Tom...he keeps me grounded. I am looking forward to the lovely weather expected this weekend and the time at home.
