Tom's Big Adventure

My husband took a trip this weekend. In seventeen years of marriage, he has only been away twice. This is the third trip. I was a little nervous. I am not crazy about staying alone with just me and the kids. It has only been recently that he has discovered the Internet. As a result, he has become a constant on a bulletin board for backpackers. It is through them that he planned the trip.

There were several people who do this trip every year as a fund raiser for the American Cancer Association. It is a 42.1 mile stretch with significant elevation changes. It's in Pennsylvania. The Black Forest Trail... Tom was very excited about going, and he was able to raise about $700. I was proud of him, but still apprehensive.

I had a busy weekend myself. I had to take the exam for National Board Certification. (I will save my thoughts about that for a future post!) So, I figured maybe it will not be so bad because I will be busy...yeah right.

I did not hear from him for two days. My mind ran the gamut between, "he just doesn't have a signal" to "Oh my, he has surely fallen off of a mountain" to "these total strangers that I have never met before have done something horrible to him."

Needless to say, he had a great time. He met some cool people, and they raised a good deal of money for a great cause. I am just crazy...and jealous. :) Next year I will have to go with him. Then we can fall off of the mountain together.
