Well...today it's not really a confession, but I felt compelled to call it that. Sorry.Last night when Tom came home he brought home a live animal trap for our son. My son has been talking about catching a raccoon forever. He always sets out little treats in hopes of catching a raccoon out in the yard. He was very excited about the trap that Tom brought home.
It is a live animal trap which just closes a door once the animal goes inside. It does not hurt the animal, we just want to see him up close. It is similar to the ones that the animal control people use for foxes and such roaming around in neighborhoods. It's fairly large, and can hold a good size animal.
So last night the three of us were discussing what to use as bait to catch a raccoon. We talked about various vegetables, sweets (suggested by my child, of course), etc. We all paused and became silent in thought about what to use...when Carson exclaimed that he knew what to use. He dashed out of the room, and returned shortly with his idea.
He came running back carrying a small, key chain hand sanitizer that I have him carry on his book bag. He was beaming with excitement. He said, "We can definitely get a raccoon with this!" Tom and I both looked at one another in an effort to figure out what in the world would make him think that a raccoon would want to drink hand sanitizer. I suppose that he saw the puzzled look on our faces, and he volunteered his explanation. "Raccoons wash their hands all the time, Mom. They always rub their hands together and keep them clean. They will really, really want this."
It was all I could do not to giggle. It was the cutest thing in the world. He is 8 years old, and I do not get cute from him very much anymore.
We put the trap out with a can of chicken...and we hung the hand sanitizer on the side. :)
