We woke up early this morning, about 6:00. It seemed REALLY early after all of the tent stuff the night before. We all dressed and ate breakfast and left for church. We attended a small church in Delores, Colorado. First Baptist Church of Delores was very small in number, but they were very nice and friendly. The minister brought a good sermon about how the Lord is our
Guardian. Thankfully he is. Joanna could have been hurt much more severely, but most of her wounds were just surface abrasions. We had a few minutes of fellowship at the church after the
service. We had gone to the early service at 8:30 am. So it was still early when we left the church. Then we went to the Anasazi Heritage Museum in Delores. It had been recommended by several people we had spoken to. The kids liked seeing all of the artifacts and being able to grind corn with the rocks and weave on the loom. It was very interesting. We left the museum about lunch time and drove to Hovenweep National Monument. There were very old buildings. It was very hot there and driving there too. It was about 105* there. The sun was just incredible. We did not stay there too long. We walked a little way around
the two-mile trail to see all of the ruins. The best part of the day was the drive to and from Hovenweep. The desert is just amazingly gorgeous. Tom didn’t like it very much, but I thought it was incredible. I loved it. The mountains, driving back to camp, were so impressive. We drove through the Navajo Indian Reservation and the Ute Indian reservation. The desert and mountains are just so beautiful. We got back to camp to find that it was getting ready to rain and we had to do something for the broken tent. We tried to put up a tarp and finally were successful. It rained the entire time that we were making dinner. We finally finished dinner and ate corn on the cob with grilled chicken and beans and rice. We were all starving. We all ate a good dinner. After dinner we went on the fossil hunt. It turned out well that we had not gone the first day. We were the only people on the hunt this night. The camp man took us on a trailer up the mountain to a fossil bed that was there. The kids and Tom and I all looked for fossils. Tom found a very good fossil and the kids and me found a few other smaller ones. We all had a good time. I think that the kids really enjoyed it. After the fossil hunt we went back to camp and took down the tarp. We finally got the kids in bed and Tom and I took turns going down for a shower. We had some coffee and turned in. We were pretty tired.
